FAQs about ART & EMDR

  • Think of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) like a way to help you clean up and rework memories that are causing you pain or distress.

In ART, you’ll talk about difficult memories, but instead of just focusing on them, we will help you change how you feel about those memories. We might guide you through some gentle eye movements while you visualize these memories. This helps your brain process them differently.

The goal is to help you feel less upset about these memories, almost like rewriting a story to give it a better ending. Many people find that they can feel relief and even see improvements in just a few sessions. It’s a supportive and safe way to help you heal.

  • ART is beneficial for those with PTSD, depression, grief and loss, guilt and shame and all types of anxiety including performance anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, perfectionism, etc.

Basically, ART is great for any difficult feelings or memories that are making it hard for you to enjoy life. It’s all about helping you feel better and move forward!

  • We have found that most people need about 1-5 sessions of ART to notice significant improvements. Some clients find relief after just one session, while others may benefit from a few more, depending on the complexity of their issues and personal progress. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best plan based on your needs and how you're feeling throughout the process.

The goal is to help you feel better as quickly as possible!

  • EMDR is a type of accelerated therapy designed to help you process and heal from traumatic memories. Here’s how it works:

In a typical session, you’ll first talk about a specific memory that’s been bothering you. Your therapist will guide you through this memory while you follow their hand movements with your eyes. This is called bilateral stimulation, and it helps your brain process the memory in a new way.

As you do this, you might notice changes in how you feel about the memory or even new insights coming up. The goal is to reduce the emotional charge of that memory, making it less overwhelming.

EMDR is effective for PTSD and can help with anxiety, depression, and other issues related to trauma. Many people find that it helps them feel more at peace with their past and better able to handle challenges in the present. The process can take several sessions, but many clients notice improvements fairly quickly.
